Choosing a colour palette for web design0
Posted 07 May 2009
Firstly, it has to be said: there is no such thing as “the ultimate colour palette” for a website. What works great on one webpage, may look hideous on another. Besides, colour perception can be so different from person to person. It’s almost impossible to find the golden rule of using colours in web design. Of course there are better and worse colour schemes on various websites but I guess we can use the term “better” only from our subjective point of view. Sometimes however one or another website is perceived by majority of users...

How to rotate an image in Photoshop1
Posted 29 April 2009
Rotating images in Photoshop is very simple! We will look at two ways of doing this here. Method 1: Using “transform” on an image. The transform method allows you to rotate an image very simply. To do it: a) Load your image into Photoshop b) The image you have loaded is usually going to be a background image. You can see whether it is easily – is the name “background” in the layers box? If it does, you need to change this into a normal layer. Normal layers can be rotated. To change your background layer into a normal layer,...
Deciding on HTML or Macromedia Flash0
Posted 29 April 2009
Flash technology was introduced in 1996 by Macromedia Company (part of Adobe now). It was meant to be an efficient way to create nice looking animations using vector graphics, with a file size light enough to be used for websites. Flash technology became a powerful programming and graphic environment for not only animations, but big websites, e-commerce solutions, online gaming, mobile phone graphics and much more. In fact, pretty much all available online services can be done in Flash. Flash’s main advantage was “the look”. In the...

Changing eye colour to Blue in Photoshop3
Posted 29 April 2009
This tutorial is not about how to become Frank Sinatra, it’s intended to help you with retouching your photographs. In the digital era, correcting photographs has become very easy but still we cannot leave everything to our camera or computer. It is always better to do some work manually because the results can be much better. The topic of this tutorial is how to create Blue eyes. Of course, you can use similar methods to create Green and Brown eyes but I’d very careful with changing the eyes to Pink. Ok let’s start. I found this...
Selectively removing colour0
Posted 28 April 2009
Before imageAfter image These two images are different in one very small detail: The semi colour image has the main object in colour, but the background is greyscale. By the way, for this tutorial I used an image from http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1054454 So let’s get to work! We have to somehow extract the main object from the background, convert the background to greyscale while remaining the Butterflys colours. 1. Open the image in Photoshop 2. Go to Layers Palette 3. Duplicate the Background Layer. Simply grab the Background Layer...
